The Meghalaya High Court on Friday found the publisher and editor of The Shillong Times, a local newspaper guilty of contempt and fined them Rs 2 lakhs each, failing which they will be send to jail for six months, and the paper will also be banned.

On International Women’s Day, the editor Patricia Mukhim (in photo) and her publisher Shobha Chaudhuri were sentenced to sit in the corner of the courtroom till the rising of the court.
The two journalists landed in trouble for two reports carried by the newspaper in December 2018, “When judges judge for themselves” and “High Court pursues retirement benefits to judges, family” in which they criticised a court ordering several provisions for retired chief justices and judges and their spouses and children.
