Lots of ties in the standings with runners at Doyle’s and the Corrib easily topping the 1,000 mark (You think scoring this is easy?). But a big shake-out up top as CSU posterboy Terry McNatt has taken sole possession of 1st place with 93 points over surprising Loren Obler of Brighton and the Cape’sQuarterdeck superstar Mike Norton. adidas pitchman Mike McGrane and Woburn’s Chris Smith are also in the hunt.
Biggest no-show had to be 2005 champion Jason Cakouros who pulled diaper duty on race day. With three kids, Terry & Sue McNatt wrote the primer on racing with a brood in tow, but they won’t be sharing that with the Cakouros clan until a few more races have passed. Overall Corrib champion Erik “Ned” Nedeau has won the next race in the series – the Brew Run 5M on Aug. 11 – so could make it interesting (at least for the next race).

Paul Hammond is back from the dead and climbing the rankings while the biggest tussle to date is in the Veterans division where devastating Dave Cobb and Iron Joe Drugan have each swapped a race with Dave Pember and Tom Hart tied for third after two races.
Remember when guys would work a shift, hop a freight and run the Boston Marathon? Harvey Blonder is tied with 2006 Senior champion Dave Wessman but his eyes well up with tears whenever he thinks of traveling more than 20 minutes outside of Canton. Outside of Blonder, Guy Barra has an injury suffered in a foreign nation that we’re contractually obliged not to disclose (Guy’s the right-hand man during Awards Night at Doyle’s). So things are looking good for the speediest if not the thirstiest of the Thristy Irish Runners.
They had a 70+ division at the Corrib last year; this year when you’ve got a superlative field they don’t – go figure. Suffice that Suffolk University coach Don Murray is a perfect 2-for-2 but probably isn’t Cape bound. With Jim McLaughlin recovering from injuries suffered in a micro-burst down Florida way (but still scoring and tied for 5th with Ruane Crummett) Pub savvy Bob Hillman and Marshfield teammate Tom Wright could move into the 1-2 positions on Aug. 11. Don’t be square, we’ll see you there!
