LaVar Ball and his son, LaMelo have received their share of criticism for the Ball family’s appearance Monday on WWE Raw at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but the boss of LaVar’s son Lonzo complimented the Big Baller Brand founder.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Los Angeles Lakers controlling owner and president Jeanie Buss said of Ball’s performance, “He’s a very big personality, and I thought he did a terrific job.”
The Lakers selected Lonzo with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, and his Raw appearance marked his first time inside L.A.’s Staples Center as a Laker.
LaVar stole the spotlight, however, by ripping off his shirt and running around the ring during a Miz TV segment with Intercontinental champion The Miz.
Controversially, LaMelo used the “N-word” during the segment, and WWE subsequently addressed the issue in a statement: “The inappropriate language used by a guest during the Miz TV segment was not scripted nor reflects WWE’s values.”
While the Ball family continues to make headlines for myriad reasons, Buss and the Lakers are hopeful Lonzo will be newsworthy primarily for his on-court performances during the 2017-18 season.
