The NXT Championship match is now official for TakeOver XXX.
NXT Champion Keith Lee will defend his title against Karrion Kross at the Saturday, August 22 TakeOver special. That was made official on tonight’s NXT, which also featured an angle where Lee was hit in the face with a fireball.
Kross warned Lee last month that everyone would suffer unless Lee gave him a title shot. Lee accepted the challenge, telling Kross to pick the time and place. But NXT general manager William Regal said he wouldn’t be bullied into making championship matches and told Kross that title shots had to be earned. Kross then sent a message to Lee and Regal last week by causing destruction backstage.
Kross laid out Danny Burch during that destruction, setting up a match between them on NXT tonight. Lee came down to the ring with a contract in his hand after Kross got the win. Kross and Scarlett left the ring when Lee came out. Lee got on the microphone and said he wasn’t surprised. Lee said he offered for Kross to earn his title shot, but Kross didn’t want to do that. Lee said he instead pleaded with Regal and promised that he wouldn’t put his hands on Kross until TakeOver if Regal made the match.

Scarlett took the contract, Kross signed it, and she then slid it back into the ring. When Lee opened the contract, a fireball came out of it and hit him in the face.
Lee was taken to the hospital as part of the fireball angle. Later in the show, it was said that Lee vowed that Kross would be a dead man at TakeOver.
Lee has been NXT Champion since defeating Adam Cole for the title at Great American Bash night two last month. This will be the second time that Kross has wrestled at a TakeOver special. He made his TakeOver debut by defeating Tommaso Ciampa at TakeOver: In Your House in June.
