The past couple days have seen an influx of John Cena and Nikki Bella relationship news, with both of the WWE stars making public appearances – Cena on the “Today” show and Nikki at the NBC Upfronts – to discuss their recent breakup and future.
The timing of the public comments from both Cena and Nikki comes at an interesting point, as the new season of Total Bellas is just five days away from its premiere.
On the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared his opinion, which I should strongly note is simply his opinion and not a confirmed fact, that the comments from Cena and Bella in the past two days are entirely a work to hype the new season of Total Bellas, which has been promising to address the Cena and Nikki split.
“I concluded that right now, everything is a work”, said Meltzer of Cena and Nikki’s public comments this week. “I’m not saying the whole – everything is a complete work, but right now, everything between those two, that they’re doing, is a complete work to build the television show”, Meltzer added.
“Because [Cena] was so reciting scripted material,” Meltzer elaborated. “It was the same voice and the same reactions when he was secretly…coming off that secret proposal which everyone in the world knew ahead of time. So he’s doing the same cadence, the same thing, so I go, ‘well that was completely fake,’ so these are his fake reactions. So this is obviously his fake reactions as well.”
It’s worth noting that back in 2015, during an episode of Total Divas, a backstage segment aired which featured WWE Producer “Road Dogg” Brian James chastizing then-cast member Paige. Following the episode, James received a ton of heat on social media from fans upset at the way he spoke with Paige, which you can check out in the video player above. James later defended his actions on the show by Tweeting that Total Divas is a scripted TV program, lending more credence to the belief that both Total Divas and Total Bellas are far from being spontaneous, “reality” TV.
We also noted several weeks ago that John Cena and Nikki Bella had to re-shoot their breakup for the new season of “Total Bellas” since the cameras were not rolling when they initially broke up, meaning the breakup viewers will see on the show this season will be something Cena and Nikki reenacted, and will more-or-less feature the couple acting out the breakup, as opposed to living it when it actually happened.
