Lionel Messi has not asked to be rested by PSG before World Cup

Loïc Tanzi of L’Équipe as well as RMC Sport both report this evening that, contrary to initial rumours, Lionel Messi has no intention of asking Christophe Galtier to sit out Paris Saint-Germain’s final match before the World Cup.

The league leaders are due to face Auxerre at home on November 13, just days before the tournament in Qatar is due to begin. The Argentine has rediscovered top form this season after a middling first campaign, and so far has 12 goals and 13 assists in 17 matches in all competitions.

Although Messi intends to keep playing in PSG’s matches until the World Cup, Galtier may well decide to rest him anyway, add RMC, not least given that the 35-year-old has yet to start a game on the bench this year, unlike Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Before then, the team face Juventus in their final Champions League group stage encounter tomorrow, before travelling to Brittany to face this year’s Ligue 1 surprise package Lorient.
