WATCH: Owen Farrell’s UNREAL backdoor assist against Exeter Chiefs

Owen Farrell put on a show as Saracens romped to a comprehensive 35-3 victory over Exeter Chiefs in the Premiership on New Year’s Eve.

Farrell scored 10 points and assisted two tries in the triumph as Saracens bounced back emphatically from last week’s Premiership loss to London Irish.

The 32-point margin is Saracens’ biggest victory over Exeter, while it was also the Chiefs’ heaviest league defeat for over two years.

Outrageous Owen!

Saracens were dominant from the onset, scoring their first try through a slick tap-and-go set move in the opening 10 minutes.

While Exeter would reply through a Joe Simmonds penalty some 10 minutes later, that would be their final contribution to the scoreboard as further tries from Sean Maitland and Marco Riccioni gave Saracens a 17-3 half-time lead.

Farrell knocked over two further penalties to take the lead past 20 points.

Maitland was denied a try by a superb tackle from full-back Josh Hodge. But with 10 minutes left on the clock, Farrell produced his moment of magic.

The England international was caught flat-footed when Kapeli Pifeleti flung the ball his way after a messy ruck.

Farrell superbly threw a skip pass behind his back to Alex Lewington, who sprinted down the touchline to score the bonus-point try.

Nick Tompkins would add one more try for the hosts as they wrapped up the 32-point victory.

When asked about Farrrell’s pass in the last 10 minutes, Saracens assistant coach Joe Shaw said: “Owen has got that in his skillset.

“He would have known Alex Lewington was out there and when you practice and practice….people think it’s luck but it’s not.”

The Londoners kick 2023 off with a visit to Kingsholm to tackle Gloucester, who edged London Irish, while Exeter Chiefs host Northampton Saints.
