Marseille in talks with Roma to sign Jordan Veretout

L’Équipe report this morning that Marseille have made French midfielder Jordan Veretout their priority midfield signing, with talks ongoing with his current club Roma to bring him in as Boubacar Kamara’s replacement.

The former Nantes and Aston Villa man is under contract with the Giallorossi until the end of the 2023/24 season. Marseille club president Pablo Longoria, who is on good terms with the Romans after previous deals between the two teams, began negotiations in the last few days, and a deal could be found soon.

The signing has been approved by new manager Igor Tudor. OM had previously been looking to sign Axel Witsel, who had left Borussia Dortmund on a free, but the Belgian joined Atlético Madrid instead. Villarreal’s Francis Coquelin was another option, but the decision-makers at the club were not all in agreement over his arrival.

Veretout would emerge as the fourth arrival at the club in a matter of hours, after the signing of Granada forward Luis Suárez was announced last night and the imminent signings of Jonathan Clauss of Lens and Celta Vigo goalkeeper Rubén Blanco.
