For a month now, the 20-year-old’s preference has been clear – to move to PSG this summer and play alongside Kylian Mbappé. That’s despite Newcastle offering personal terms which includes a wage 15 times his current salary at Reims who agreed to a €36m plus €10m in bonuses fee with the Premier League club.

However, that €46m offer is, for now, stopping him from joining PSG who are not prepared to match such a high transfer fee. Reims are, for now, not willing to lower their demands despite PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi personally calling his Reims counterpart Jean-Pierre Caillot over the deal.

Discussion have been continuing in recent days as, the player’s agent met with PSG sporting director Luis Campos on July 4th before the Reims hierarchy visited PSG’s Paris HQ to meet with director Antero Henrique and coach Christophe Galtier. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the player after Ekitike managed 10 league goals last season despite many absences due to injury and suspension.
