RC Lens closing in on €5m deal for Nottingham Forest’s Brice Samba

According to L’Équipe Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeper Brice Samba (28) is close to a €5m move to Lens, with the final formalities of the transfer yet to be finalised. The former Le Havre man had only one year left on his contract with the newly promoted Premier League side.

Earlier this month Samba was offered a one-year extension to his deal at the City ground, yet the Congolese shot-stopper made his intention to join RC Lens after turning down Forest’s offer. L’Équipe report that Samba has asked the club to speed up negotiations so that he can partake in pre-season preparations with his new teammates – his wish could be granted by early next week.

Samba made 45 appearances and kept 14 clean sheets last season, helping Forest win the EFL Championship play-off final in May and gaining promotion to the Premier League – where they will play next season for the first time since 1999. The English club are close to announcing a loan-deal for Dean Henderson from Manchester United, which was one of the requirements for Samba’s possible departure.

Samba has been Lens’ priority signing in the past month in the goalkeeping position with Jean-Louis Leca (36) entering the final year of his contract and Wuilker Farinez (24) being set to leave.
