PSG’s Leonardo found out about dismissal during title celebrations

L’Équipe report this morning that Leonardo was told about his dismissal as Paris Saint-Germain’s director of sport during the team’s title celebrations on Saturday evening.

The former midfielder was told by president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, with whom his relationship had been strained of late, that he would be leaving the club right after the 5-0 win over Metz.

Although he knew his position was under scrutiny, Leonardo was still hopeful of being able to continue on to next season. Nevertheless, Kylian Mbappé’s extension has made it difficult for him to remain at the club.

During renewal talks, the forward’s representatives did not outright call for the Brazilian to leave, but remarks were made on the club’s management, incoherent transfer markets, and the leniency afforded to certain players on a daily basis.

Director of communication Jean-Martial Ribes is also set to leave, although his departure from PSG was due to take place anyway as he takes up a position at LVMH.
