L’Équipe report today that Monaco owner Dmitry Rybolovlev has decided to sack all of vice-president Oleg Petrov, sporting director Paul Mitchell, and manager Philippe Clement in the near future over the team’s poor results this season.
Although the time frame is yet to be confirmed, the Russian owner has decided to enact an overhaul in the club’s personnel, with the heights of the 2017 Champions League semi-final looking increasingly distant. Monaco themselves have denied this when contacted by L’Équipe last night.
Clement’s appointment, replacing Niko Kovač three months ago, has not had the desired effect on results and has seen the team lose ground on the challengers for European places with just one win in the last eight games. Mitchell and Petrov’s roles in the Croatian manager’s departure will see them lose their positions at the club.
Rybolovlev believes that the investment brought to Monaco should be able to make it Ligue 1’s second club. Paul Mitchel, whose optimistic words after the loss to Strasbourg clashed with Petrov’s silence, is set to leave two years after his appointment.
The club’s vice-president and Rybolovlev’s son-in-law, Juan Sartori, could be set to play a greater role at the club, having joined the board at the back end of last year.
A result against Paris Saint-Germain today is not expected to have much effect on proceedings – if anything, Clement is not even guaranteed of still having his job by the end of the upcoming international break.
