RMC Sport report today that Ligue 1’s primary domestic broadcaster Amazon Prime are pushing for referees to be equipped with microphones during games.
The initiative, which is supported by the FFF as well as its internal referees’ organisation, and was tested out earlier this month when highlights of Marseille-Angers were released with referee Jérémy Stinat heard throughout the game.
Only an agreement on the end of the IFAB is now needed for the change to go ahead, as Amazon look to implement the change to “improve the quality of the broadcast” and help “the understanding of refereeing decisions”. The broadcaster had expressed a desire to do so from before their bid for eight Ligue 1 games a week was accepted last June.
