Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe, French youth international goalkeeper Paul Nardi has spoken about a disastrous loan move to Rennes this summer which saw him play just once in the cup.
He has however revealed that SRFC manager Christian Gourcuff tried to let him leave in summer just a couple of weeks after the deal was finalised when it became clear that Benoît Costil was not going to be leaving as expected, but was blocked by the Rennes board.

“Yes, Christian Gourcuff was in agreement. He understood that I needed to play. We had found Standard Liege, but Rennes let their second goalkeeper Diallo go and blocked me… I will always have bad memories of Rennes. It was a difficult period for me. That do not realise that they could have put someone’s career in danger. Of course I am angry at him (President Ruello).”
Nardi is now on loan at Cercle Brugge from AS Monaco, where he hopes to establish himself as the first choice goalkeeper for the remainder of the current campaign.
