According to today’s edition of L’Équipe, Steve Mandanda’s contract does in fact not expire at the end of the season as was previously mooted.
There is a clause in his contract which triggers an extension until 2017 in case of qualification for the Champions’ League. Now it had initially been thought that this clause could only be activated if OM qualified for the Champions’ League in the 2015/16 campaign.
However, it appears, according to the report, that actually the clause was activated the moment that OM qualified for the Champions’ League at any point after this new contract was signed.
OM have already satisfied that requirement of the extension clause if that is the case, playing Champions’ League football in 2013/14…
If this is the case, then Mandanda is therefore not a free man at the end of the season!
